
Newer OmniTurn controls will run all older programs, however, if you want to use the newer features on an older control, it can not be done without changing the motion control card. This card must be updated to run the latest (Post 12/94) software versions. The new software offers a number of new features: TNR comp, G74,75, 78 roughing cycles, upto 2-lead threading, Auto C and R for corners, Diameter programming. The software is supplied for free.
Some of the older systems with 2AXINTERP motion control cards can not be updated to MC2 without changing the motherboard. When we change the motherboard, we also change out the 2 floppy disk drives, disk I/O controller card, and the computer power supply. This yields no other major benefit.
The power supply for the servo amps establishes what the maximum rapid rate will be. The older systems were 50VDC, the newer ones are 72VDC. This can be changed, however the cost vs. the benefit is questionable.
1/99 Hard disks became part of the standard setup for the OmniTurn control. It has proven to be one of the best additions to the control. There are a number of advantages:
