Suhner Spindles and Drives
OmniTurn offers a series of different Suhner spindles and drives that cover a large range of needs. Much of the Suhner accessories can be mixed and matched in many different configurations. If you would like our opinion on how to tool up your job, give us a call.
Unless you have a special reason to go the larger BEWI-6, we recommend the smaller unit for most applications. Here are a few notes on some of the issues.
BEWI-6 and the OmniTurn GT-75
The BEWI-6 is substantially longer than the BEWI-4. The cable is also much longer before it can bend. This combined length will create problems with the sheetmetal enclosure of the GT-75. If you are planing on using the quill with a vertical holder, you will not be able to used the Lexan front door. If you were using a GT-Jr. there is not door to get in the way.
Cross drilling is also an issue with the larger BEWI-6. The unit can only be used from the top (X-). The drive cable must then go through the top of the cabinet. The BEWI-4 can be snaked through the cabinet and out a hole in the back right corner.
New Omni-36 high precision milling and slotting spindles
These spindles are made for heavy duty milling, drilling, and slotting. The angular contact bearings and precision preload create a spindle with very little runout and end play. The spindles can be used with either the NA-7 or NA-12 cables. An adapter must be purchased depending on the cable to be used. Also 40mm holders with 36mm bushings are required for mounting on the lathe. Uses standard OTC-16 collets.
